i had a friend who knew somebody who went to europe to study with a famous serilalist composer. i think what happened was that he met up with the maestro, who asked the guy for a light for a cigarette, and when the guy mentioned that he didn't smoke, the maestro said "how do you expect to be a serialist composer if you don't smoke?"
I remember a particular moment at DFNW during stochelo's workshop, when a gentleman asked him how stochelo approached triads in his soloing ....
a better question would be to ask how he goes about putting together his arrangements. what method does he use to experiment and get ideas for sections of a song?
