Gypsy violin

I love the sound of gypsy violin. Besides bands like Taraf de Haidouks, Les Yeux Noirs, and Fishtank Ensemble, who are other players and bands to look for?

Also can anyone shed some light on exactly what Taraf's violinist Nicolae Neacsu is doing on the song "Balada Conducatorolui" (Ballad of the Dictator) featured in the movie "Latcho Drom". Is he pulling a piece of bow hair loop around a string or pulling the winding off the string?

but anyway it's just a string that you attach to any string on the violin.. you put rosin between the thumb and index, pull the string, and boom...
