Thanks for sharing that. Bryant combined Bakersfield style country, rock and roll and bop, mostly on Telecasters but he also played an odd duck known as a Stratosphere double neck, six and twelve string necks. The 12 string neck was tuned in 3rds, some major, some minor... pretty funky stuff! Plus, pedal steel guitarist Speedy West was on most of his records. There's an anthology available from Sundazed Records.

I think everyone should check out his version of China Boy...good grief...what roof ripper...PLENTY of Django stuff in there.

He's like Django with a tele and an 8 ball...

I wouldn't say Jimmy "mostly" played Vox. He was a Fender man through and through. He was the first celebrity endorser of Fender Telecasters, and used a special 2x10 Fender tweed twin that Leo made for him.

As CBS took over Fender, Jimmy switched his public endorsements, and was seen prominently in Vox ads, with the Voxmobile. He also used Magnatone guitars in the 60's (see cover of Fretting Fingers box set and his instructional LP).

By the time Jimmy and Speedy cut "For the Last Time", Jimmy was using a Gibson ES-335. For that last reunion disc, Jimmy was convinced by Speedy to use a Tele that was owned by the recording studio.

Stephanie's comment about Jimmy's using a double-neck guitar with a twelve-string tuned in major and minor thirds reminded me of a guy named Dan Axelrod.

When Tal Farlow came out of semi-retirement and started gigging here in NJ in the late seventies, Dan was playing with him, and was using a twelve-string with, reportedly, the same kind of tuning.
