Weber Guitars?

plectromanplectroman Albany New YorkNew
Anybody know about Weber Gtrs? He was reputedly Shelly Park"s Mentor. There's a grand bouche for sale locally. It's strung light and low, sounds quite open and loud. Any thoughts?

There are two D holes in a shop here that I've played, both sounded nice to me, but that's all I know... I believe I ran across the website once as well, but the focus was not on this style of guitar.

What shop has the Webers? You are in Ballard, so this is at a Seattle store?

I've tried these....they seemed like glorified flatops to me. Pretty dead sounding in my opinion. In fact, the top seemed to have almost no arch in it. I'm pretty sure the same ones have been sitting there for over three years!

IS this the same Weber that makes mandolins? If so the sho I used to work for had two of his archtops and although they were nicely constructed and quite exensive, I didn't really care for them. But I will reiterate they were nicely constructed just not for me.

Yes, they are at guitar emporium in ballard. Michael is probably right, they have been there for at least a year that I know of. I didn't notice the lack of an arch, but I wasn't looking!

The guitars at Guitar Emporium are by David Webber, the Canadian luthier (http://www.webberguitars.com/index.html). Weber archtop guitars and mandolins are built in Montana

OK. It turns out that the luthier in question is David Webber {2 b's} Not the same guy who makes mandolins, but reputedly employed Shelly Park in his shop...his Sel-mac style guitar is in stock @ Cathedral Music in Troy NY. Anybody know anything about him or his instruments? Sorry about the confusion.

He's noted most for his narrow-waist flat-tops. I have a Weber concert OM and it's fantastic. He's very well known in the fingerstyle world. For a while I thought I was going to get into fingerstyle but the music just didn't grab me because it was so technical and didn't seem very 'jam friendly'. I think a fair number of Celtic and Singer-songwriter types play Webers too. If I had to sum up his signature voice, I'd say they were clean sounding guitars with pronounced midrange and nice but not overdone harmonics... similar to Collings. I've tried jamming my OM - the voice is nice but it just doesn't have the horsepower - but then again - it was not designed for that.
You get one chance to enjoy this day, but if you're doing it right, that's enough.
