This was where the show in Iceland got wild. Violinist Ola Kvernberg and his drummer Eric Nylander joined us on stage for three songs. We had a great groove going. I wrote “Sco’ Django” as a tribute to one of my favorite guitarists, John Scofield, and use his bass line from “Protocol”. Ola is a huge musician and he picked up this tune in the bar just before show time!

This is great. i'm curious to know if any of the gypsy players do this kind of thing- like "Sco-Django"

Sco' Django is a cool tune, but imo it doesn't fit with the rest of the tunes I've heard in the set (at least the ones you've posted).

Your versions of the gypsy jazz standards have the sound of the classic hot jazz era but with some bebop inflections (kinda like what I'd imagine late period Django was going for). Sco'Django sounds a bit post-bop to me; the harmonies are wilder and the lines have more angles. When put next to the swing era stuff, even with your boppisms, it sounds a bit out of place. On it's own, I think it's a brilliant juxtaposition and homage to Scofield and Django.

I've dug Stochelo Rosenberg & Romane's Double Jeu, which has a bop & cool jazz sensibility. I mention this because I think that sound is similar to what you are seeking?

Cool 8) ! I dig your style and the way you work outside the box. - First really discovered what you're into through the Jimmy DVD. Also a big fan of Ola K. I saw you'd been in contact though Myspace and hope to see you do something more together sometime(?) Ola is one of those musicians who can come into any great set and bring everyone to the edge of their seats; grinning or jaw dropping. After the regular concerts at the 2007 Django Festival in Oslo he and Florin jammed and 'duelled' for what seemed like hours in a small joint, both apparently having a really great time, and Ola shifting between the violin, piano (monster also there) and finally bass when the rythm section started fading away somewhere past 3 am. That's when the really great moments come to us fans: musicians having fun!
