A hearty congrats to Phil Lavine for his fantastic Gypsy Jazz calendar. Phil has been taking great photos and archiving the Gypsy jazz scene for years. Now he has collected some of his best work in his 2009 calendar. Phil's work is well-respected in the Gypsy Jazz community and used for CD covers, websites, professional band promotion and more. His calendar has a dozen full-color, full-page images of some of the top players in today's GJ scene. It also has a great photo on the cover of a handful of Selmeresque guitars.

Most of the pictures were taken at festivals in the UK and DFNW. They sure bring back memories looking at 'em.

I'm unabashedly promoting this because I know Phil put his heart in this project, it looks super, and it's a great way to show our support of Gypsy jazz. Get one for the wife or girlfriend -- she's bound to appreciate it for your thoughtfulness of not buying another GJ guitar. As for the women in our GJ group -- you've gotta check out the beefcake: Andreas "Mr. March" Oberg, and Robin "Mr. October" Nolan for starters.

Seriously, check it out: Go to the Djangobooks homepage, go to the store and look under "books".
