This is the company that makes (or at least distributes) Johnson guitars. I have a bit of experience with their resophonic instruments which are inexpensive but of wildly varying quality. There are some suggestions that qualityhas gotten better in the past 6 months or so.
First Saga (Gitane), then Aria (tho' I haven't seen any of these in north america yet) and now Paris Swing? If they are, indeed, anything like the Johnsons, I would not chance buying one on-line. I did play one brass bodied style'O' that was every bit as good as my old National, whereas the other dozen or so that I tried were complete garbage.
I'm eerily reminded of the resonator craze that swept thru' the guitar world a few years back. I eventually lost track of the number of brands that were popping up everywhere. Now the local shops only stock Fenders with their hideous 'F' shaped f holes, or Deans with their even more hideous headstocks. If this happens with selmacs, I shudder to think what will be left when the market saturates.
Well, don't shoot the messenger! I first heard about both the Paris Swing Company and CafeDjango by visiting the Djangofest San Francisco home page. http://www.djangofest.com/sf/home.htm
Personally, I'm holding out for the "Got Gypsy Jazz?" thong. (Place irreverently smirking emoticon here.)
I wonder if Bernhard at Hot Club News is getting compensated for every American company under the sun using his graphic?
Hi Ted,
I asked Bernhard Gierstl about this. The Cartoon wasn´t made by him. The face of Django was once painted by Charles Delaunay. Later Alain Antonietto added the upper part of the body and the guitar.
