Hello everyone. What type of guitar is good for a beginner in this style of play? I'm not looking to spend more than is needed at first. Can I use a nylon stringed guitar? Can I use a regular steel stringed acoustic guitar? I appreciate any help.
The oval is long scale, the neck joins the body at the 14th fret, has a more cutting tone with more string tension, easier access to the high frets and though not from the player's perspective they are usually louder.
The D hole is short scale, the neck joins the body at the 12th fret, has more bass, can be easier to play for some people due to the frets being closer together, a little tougher to get to the really high frets (but has that 24 fret extension on the high E string), looser string tension and most players find that they can hear themselves better because the wider soundhole.
Both are cool!

For a starter gypsy guitar the Ciganos are it.
