RIP Freddie Hubbard

Very sad news!!!!! Freddie Hubbard Died today. He had a heart attack a few weeks ago I believe, but I just heard he passed today.
Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard.

    An incredible player--one of my fave recordings is his classic "Red Clay" which i believe is also Pat Methenys all time favourite cd.Sad news

    Yeah Red Clay is awesome! As is the stuff he recorded with George Benson on guitar but off the top of my head I can't remember whose or what session that was (Brother Jack Mcduff maybe). Scotty Barnhart who is the trumpet soloist witht the modern incarnation of the Basie band and a professor here at Florida State told us a hysterical story once about everytime he went to L.A. he went to Freddie's house and would hustle him in pool!

    Just heard a beautiful version of "Golden Earrings" by Freddie on NPR last night. I think it's from the CD "Topsy"
