I did a little research and discovered that any song that was recorded in 1922 or older falls under public domain. I can't verify that these tunes are public domain, but that's what my search of wikipedia, etc. tells me. Please help me out and add to the list!!!

I did check that site out. That's where I found info on the US date for the copyright cutoff, and some of the tunes I listed. I was posting on this forum in the hopes that I could get a list of songs in the jazz and gypsy jazz genre that are public domain.
Michael, you must have come across some more gypsy jazz standards that are in public domain?
I noticed that John Jorgenson has recorded a lot of these public domain songs, so I guess he doesn't want to pay the overly high fees ascap/bmi/sesac wants for recording music that's still under copyright either.
Here's a list of public domain tunes:
Ida, Sweet as Apple Cider
Bill Bailey
Frankie and Johnny
Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland
Chinatown, My Chinatown
Some Of These Days
Alexander's Ragtime Band
Waitin' for the Robert E Lee

Many other tunes are on there that would work in a GJ format. I know a lot of those tunes from old Les Paul records
