Not sure if you guys knew, but Dave Fathead Newman died today. This is turning out to be a bad year for Jazz musicians.

I gotta admit I didn't know who he was. Just looked him up on wikipedia. He had a very rich carrier as a musician. It's sad that not a lot of guys from golden era of jazz are with us any more.

He was very approachable...I was talking to him at the Bottom Line one night, trying to ask him about the early days on the road w/Ray, Hank Crawford, Marcus Belgrave, etc, and all he wanted was to make sure I knew that Seka was in the house....
