Great to see video of Jean "Matelot" Ferret playing with such joy with Jo Privat and Privat's son on rhythm. Matelot uses all four fingers with such effeciency. Wonderful video.

It's from a documentary film about Jo Privat called "Les Bleus du Musette". It's a terrific film where we see the great Jo as musician, raconteur and all around character. Later in the film there is a segment with Matelot and Baro playing with Gus Viseur. Priceless stuff, but unfortunately only in French and hard to find.

How hard is it to post things like this to youtube? I have a ton of cool stuff on DVD but no clue how to put it up. I don't think I have a powerful enough computer to do it but any advice is welcome.

MAAAN I love this album. Manouche Partie is probably my favorite gypsy jazz recording. The arrangements are so hip.

Too bad the audio is clearly an overdub from the recorded version of a live performance on this video.

Putting stuff up on youtube isn't hard, it's the converting it and cutting the files to the right lengths before you upload it that is tricky.

You can rip the movies off a DVD using a free program called handbrake that works quite well: http://handbrake.fr/ . After that, if you want to adjust the lengths of the movies that come out (it will probably just do one big long file of the whole DVD), then you'll need to use additional tools. Virtualdub is a free program that does this well for PC, but it's got a bit of a learning curve.
