Ben it was great to see you again! Thanks for the kind words.
I really have to thank DC for his hospitality and pulling the whole thing together. And to think this all started with a conversation Denis and I had about "wouldn't it be great to come up with a way to convince these top caliber gypsy guitarists to come over for a sleep over?" I told Denis that it would probably be easier and cheaper to just get some alcohol and women, but Denis really had his heart set on another dvd.
And I have to agree with Ben's observations about DC's playing. He really can play. He's currently converting all the standard Major key tunes to minor key and vice versa. He and SR came up with a killer Major key version of Dark Eyes called Blue Eyes that's hilarious. Plus you don't have to pay copyright! Bonus! So that's the kind of stuff DC does when he's just messing around. Even when he doesn't have a guitar he demos and plays his wrist! He's like a lick machine or a gypsy jazz jukebox.
And it was very nice to connect with Rodrigo Shopis again. The GJG scene has such a young crowd so it's nice to hang with someone who remembers the Beatles. And Rodrigo's got that existential New York thing going too!
Worlds greatest guitarist and you have him playing Sweet Home Alabama!?!
Sounds like fun, guys. I hear the concert was amazing. I can't believe he can play like that when he first wakes up. I can't really do anything detailed till about 10am. Mostly in the morning it's all about drinking coffee and seeing how glue and finish dried overnight and trying to get up the gumption to put some butter & eggs in a pan - but then again, I'm sort of a nightowl... haha.
Ivan - you officially have the coolest job in the world. I'm sure it's a lot of work - but very cool.
You get one chance to enjoy this day, but if you're doing it right, that's enough.
Thanks for the videos. Especially the travelog. The music is amazing. The street scenes make miss Montreal. I'm a regular at the Festival de International de Jazz most summers.
Oh..., a belated thank you for letting me sit in with you and your bandmates a couple of weeks ago in NYC.
Those bits of "After you've gone" and "China Boy" around 2:30 look amazing!!
Stochelo's guitar sounds so fat!
This is gonna be even better than I imagined.
Thanks Denis, top rate work!
