Ah, the eternal question. You'll find lots here if you search the archive. For example, the Saga Gitanes are cheap (especially used) and acceptable, and can be improved with decent set-up.

As I understand it the difference is in the laminated top. But for $33 extra dollars I think the solid top Cigano is a much better deal. I have a Cigano GJ10 and have upgraded the tuners and shimmed up the bridge to raise the action, it's a nice guitar to play and is great to start with. I've said before that John Le Voi gave it an inspection at Samois last year and reckoned it was more like a Selmer than the higher end Gitanes. Lollo meier also played it and thought it was good enough for us beginners.
I also like the look of it, quite plain, thin finish and well built. I'd recommend one without hesitation
