for those that know patrick, you know what a nice guy he is, i first met patrick in 1996, it was sunday the last day of samois i was staying in a hotel in fontianblu i was asking the hotel person at the check in/out desk how i could get to samois ( being sunday i was thinking i might have to walk, didn't have much money for a taxi) then here comes patrick and his wife, he offers me a ride in his little car, he won't accept money for the ride. he checked out my little ovation travel guitar, i think he thought it was kinda funny(baby guitar) at the time i had no idea who he was or that he's one of gypsyjazz's great players, i don't post much, but i just thought i'd share abit.

Very nice story Greg. Thanks for sharing the remembrance. The thing about Gypsy Jazz is that we're all first and foremost enthusiasts of the music of Django Reinhardt-- from Bireli to the kid down the block. It's our passion for the music that keeps us linked, and there's no greater enthusiasts for GJ than Patrick Saussois. He played a critical role in helping to build the Samois festival to what it is today, and as Michael noted, a true keeper of the flame. Patrick is a rare soul who gives his heart to everyone. It is the man's genuine niceness that's the mark of his character. It is a special pleasure for me to know him and an honor for me to play his guitars. (This was one time being a lefty paid dividends!)

    Hi guys,

Thought i'd let you know about this, although I doubt any of you will be there :

    enattendantpatrickd.jpg

"En Attendant Patrick" means "Waiting for Patrick", and here's the list of artists performing for him next sunday. All profits will go to Patrick & his family.

Adrien Moignard... Alain Jean Marie... Angelo Debarre... Aurore Quartet... Boulou et Élios Férré... Brahim Haiouani... Claudius Dupont... Chris Campion... Christian Escoudé... Costel Nitescu... Dan Gharibian... Daniel John Martin... David Reinhardt... Dominique Stocchi... Dominique Verhnes... Doudou Cuilléré... Enzo Mucci... François Ricard... Gilles Naturel... Jean Christophe Rouet... Jean Claude Beneteau... Jean Claude Laudat... Jean Michel Proust... Laurent Epstein... L es frères Gastine... Matthieu Chatelain... Nicola Sabato... Ninine Garcia... Noé Reinhardt... Opus 4... Rocky Gresset... Rodolphe Raffalli... Romane... Rudy Bonin... Samy Daussat... Sébastien Giniaux... Victorine Martin... William Brunard....

If you guys think of any way to join in and let the people there know that someone cares overseas, that'd be a very heart-warming thought for the family too... I could for example transmit a message on your behalf to the MC, whom I know a bit (he's sébastien Vidal, also co-organizing Samois, and head of programs at our "TSF" jazz radio...)

I've sent sympathies to MC, but please feel free to reiterate them. Patrick Saussois is a tremendous gentleman and he is well worth waiting for.

This has been a conversation of concern in my town - Patrick is remembered well here by quite a number of people. He is well loved in this community and we're hoping for his speedy recovery.

You get one chance to enjoy this day, but if you're doing it right, that's enough.

    Hi all,
Sorry to hear of Patrick's health issues!
He is one of the finest players i have heard a warm musical personality.
I hope he comes thru this!
I have been rehabilitating my chops since carpal tunnel surgery in March
I say i am about 90 percent. I have a CD due to be released next week and have retired from all other employments to pursue music.
I listened to Patrick quite a lot ! He is one of the most melodic players i have ever heard! Sad to hear this! God bless him!
It's been along time since i have posted it feels good to be back!
    Greetings to all!
