Favino 455 restored - many pictures

Here are some photos of a step by step restoration of Favino 455. Is seems to have lived much more than the typical "Gypsy Life" many Favinos do.

    good god!

It probably would have been easier to just build a new one from scratch.

Brilliant - thanks for posting this. Wow... lots of good karma in him doing that. Benoit Bretagne did a Selmer restoration a while back that was about that severe. Being in there rebuilding something last touched by Mario/Pierre/Jacques/Bernabe... would be an honor. Big props to this guy - looks like he put a lot of work into it. Hopefully the new owner cares for it better than the old owner as the TitebondII is fairly permanent.
You get one chance to enjoy this day, but if you're doing it right, that's enough.

Speaking of Benoit, I'm still impressed by the sound sample of the Selmer 436 he restored. The guitar was a wreck, the top was litterally in pieces and so the neck. And yet, once Benoit managed to put it together, the guitar sounded like an angel, perfect "Django" tone.
I wonder if the top had retained the proper pliage or not... certainly he did a miracle there.

Wow, that's gnarly! but, very interesting pictures. I can't get Google translation to translate more than the 1st page. Looks like solid back and sides. The neck joint looks like a straight mortise and tenon joint, no dovetail. Nice pictures of both the top and the back bracing.

I'm having more success with translation. On page five, the author says to his surprise the back and sides are NOT solid, rather they are laminated. I gather the veneers are all rosewood (East Indian?) and are not bookmatched. He points out how the grain and color are different on the inside than the outside.
