Aaargh, I'm so sorry this is probably way too late, but yeah the bolts actually bolt. they're metal bolts and not wood screws. There are indeed only 2 bolts. The length of the wood, from the edge of the body (the block sitting in the guitar body) is approx 90mm. Ah, my apologies, the thickness is 20mm !!(excluding fretboard ie the mahogany neck)
Doesn't feel weird when being played no, feels just fine :)
No difference in sound whatsoever I'd say. Nothing you could perceive with the naked ear.
    Great guitars!!
    Cheers.

It's important to know that nothing regarding the action of a guitar is far from reach.
I admire your trying the shimming and reporting what you found.
Bluntly put, your answers tell me that you don't know what to do. I learned by butchery, but I learned.
I'd give it to a good tech. There's nothing wrong with the guitar. Duponts are pretty well made.
It just needs attention from someone who does truss rods, shims, bridges, etc....

There's nothing to keep you from doing it, but you would have to read, and then probably make a couple mistakes, and reread and you might need a few more tools etc.....
But techs do real good work and you really have to decide if you want to learn it or not. Youtube, and google will get you lots of the way in understanding, but there's no substitute for getting experience with tools:
Except money to pay a tech.
Don't just live with a poorly set up guitar as it'll hamper your learning and having fun.
