I put on my first set of Argies' today, and tried em' out at a coffehouse gig tonight. WOW!!!.....so THAT's what my Gitane sounds like!!!
What a difference. I liked the Pearse well enough, but these really, really sound great, especially with the Wegen.
Thanks for recomending them!!!

I guess I don't need to try the Pearse, then. Thanks for the review! Argies do have a good, strong tone with my DG300 (no I haven't gotten the Josh bridge yet)

Remember when you used the phrase "smokier"?? They're "smokier" sounding than the Pearse....to my ears anyway, and I smoke a pack a day!! Also, I found them "slinkier" than the Pearse, kinda how Ernie Ball's feel vs. Fender's on the Tele's. Time will tell with duribility ,ect. But I really like em so far.
Y'know, I got a Boss DM-2 delay a few weeks ago, and I haven't even plugged it in yet!!! GJ has completely taken over.

I'm getting 3-4 weeks out of a set of Argentines, but I'm playing them a lot! Amps, teles, pedals? Forget about it. I only begrudgingly take those to gigs with the bar band. I'm in total immersion mode. I was expecting to overdose at Djangofest LA last weekend, but I was underwhelmed. It's apparently the smallest of all the festivals, and there wasn't much going on.

Finally had to change em tonight!! After almost a month of daily playing, I had to bite the bullet and switch em out. I only wish I had enough cash to have ordered more than one set!! I suspect payday will find me online to Mr Horowitz!!
One thing I did notice though, they didn't have the discolouration that the Pearse's get after a few days. The coating seems to last wayyy longer.

I've been getting about a month out of them, too. I started to change them before my gig in New York earlier this month, but I didn't like the sound of the new strings, so I chickened out. Takes about a week for me to break them in, but I'm only playing for about a hour a day.

Sometimes you can get more out of them if you tune 'em down to slack then back up, works fine for a little while, then they're gone forever.

Another thing is to keep the old basses and change only the top 3-4 strings, this does wonders on bassy Gitanes as the tone gets more focused on the high register and the lows stop being so overbearing and get drier as well.
