I picked this disc up at DjangoFest NW. It is one of a half dozen I acquired there and it is vying for first place among my favorites. Unlike many contributors, here, I am a newbie and not a knowledgable fanatic fan. I found it appealing because, to my ear, it places musicianship and musicality above blazing technique and emplys tempos that mortals can appreciate. The engineering deliberately immitates the sound that might have been achieved 1940-something including the sound of the needle dropping. Somehow, it comes across as an homage rather than a gimmick. And who would have thought of throwing a 'purple haze' lick into Honeysuckle Rose? It is also funny......
