What is it that gives some Selmacs a dry nasal sound?
I recently commissioned and purchased a Favino style braced guitar using Michael Collins plan. The guitar box was topped with solid spruce, 2 ply maple sides and a solid maple back using all American woods. The whole guitar weighs only 650 grams. The sound box is especially thin and has been tuned. I love it's tone and it is my favourite playing choice.
Here is the but!!!
My "Mareno", Manouche, though not as loud has a much drier tone. I know that with age and playing my new guitar will improve, but does the extra rigidity of 5 braces on a sound board create this wonderful dry sound. And thus, does applying a pliage to the sound board accentuate this?
