I just received the new 3-CD set devoted to the Ferret brothers, from the esteemed label Fremeaux. The set is comprehensive, beautifully mastered and comes with a very nice booklet, as we've come to expect from the hard-working folks at Fremeaux. It may be a few weeks before this long-awaited set is readily available, and it'll probably be expensive, but it's essential for anyone even remotely interested in the history of gypsy jazz. The music is all great, too - lots of variety, humor, and the usual incredible chops. The set is worth having just to hear Baro's tunes from 1949.
I might also note that this set does not contain any of the recordings contained on the CDs of Baro and Matelot issued by Hot Club Records, so you won't be spending money on recordings you may already have. All in all a great job. Thanks, Fremeaux.
