Music Thought

What are some things to think about when soloing? The key? The current chord? The next? Three chords from now? Is soloing the stringing together of different chord/measure length inspired ideas or is it having one big idea for a group of chords or for the entire tune or all of the above?

How do you get past the superficiality of playing chord to chord and into deeper ideas, bigger plans, etc. ? Without getting into modes..

Within playing chord to chord, what tricks do you use? substitutions/analogies? What devices do use (example: enclosures, chromatic runs, etc.)

How do you play over tunes that have long stretches of the same chord (like Limehouse, Sweet Georgia, or Joseph Joseph)?

What are some of the longest, irreducible phrases (can't brake it up into smaller phrases) out there for guitar ?
