D vs Oval, All Things Being Equal

I have a local builder that is going to build me my first gypsy style guitar. I’m frankly pretty new to all this, and really haven’t had a lot of experience with gypsy guitars. He builds Favino style guitars. So I’m wondering, if all things were equal, scale length, string spacing, body size, wood choices, etc, what’s the fundamental difference tone or volume wise between the large D and smaller oval hole guitars?
