I feel a bit bizarre chiming in as I'm such a noob, but the chords seen in the book are all moveable shapes, without open strings - in other words, they are c chords, but moving up or down the fretboard will give you chromatic chords in all the voices you see - maj., minor, maj. 6/9, min. 7(b5), etc....e.g., 332233 is a C major 6/9, with G as the root, 5th string as a tonic note (C); move it to the 4th fret (554455), and you now have D maj. 6/9 (A root).
