Maybe it's the recording but it sounds like the '51 (#862) has more bass...
I always heard the 4 brace thing was supposed to increase the bass and mellow out the tone but the '41 (520) sounds more trebly, with less depth in the lows and closer to Django's sound.
If I only had the money...
The 520 is definitely more bass heavy while the 863 has a singing high end. Maybe that didn't come across in the vids but it's plainly evident when you're in the drivers seat.
I'm getting to know this guitar better....it's really cool how much it sounds like Django's recordings! If I listen to the recording of Troublant Bolero from the Rome session and the play Django's part on #520, it's soooo close!
That missing brace really does seem to thicken up the tone a lot....not as loud and cutting as the 5 brace Selmers, but very fat!

This one is really thick in tone....I guess there's something to the 4 brace design!
