Hello Michael,
I read your Gypsy picking book.
It was a great experience for me, and i'm very grateful for you writing this book.

I've been playing GJ for two years now, using the Gypsy picking technique,
but i still can't figure how to play this next lick (played by bireli lots of time):

|--3--| |--3--| |--3--|
S S S S E E E E E E E E E
-12h13p12--------------------------------------
-------------15--13-----------------------------
---------------------14-12----------------------
----------------------------13-------------------
-------------------------------15-13------------
-------------------------------------15-12-8----

I just don't know wich pattern should i use.
any suggestions?

    Hi Amir,

I'm glad you like the book!

I'm not familiar with that lick, but it looks a lot like some things Andreas transcribed for his Gypsy Fire book. Also, I'm a little confused about the rhythm...it's mostly triplets, right?

I think it might be easier if you played the note C on the 10th fret of the D string and the note G on the 10th fret of the A string. That makes the whole lick 2 notes per string so it would be all alternate picking.

    Andreas...do you know this lick?

    Good luck!

i assume you meant to transcribe bireli's famous blues clair pattern...

you have the fingerings wrong , it's all two note per strings therefore all alternate picked with the exception of the trill

and assuming it really is the lick i'm thinking about , you have the first 4 notes wrong, they should be F G F Eb

with the exception of the trill, it's all triplets, and the entire lick will fill up an entire bar.... mozes rosenberg uses that lick as well on his CD with stochelo

    Hi Amir,
I havn´t enough imagination to figure out how this lick may sound. Would you please tell me in which recording (Minutes, seconds) Bireli plays this lick? Thank you

hi! I've been trying to play this lick for ages. If you have the Bireli Live in Vienne DVD you can see him play it, it's Blues Clair. I'm sure most of it is alternate picked.

Dennis is right, you'll find this lick after 0:48 seconds on Blues Clair(first gypsy project cd).

    .... so it's something like

-13h15p13--------------------------------------
-------------16--13------------------------------
---------------------14-12-----------------------
----------------------------13-10----------------
-----------------------------------12-10---------
------------------------------------------12-8---

    - using one of the famous Django's two-fingers-per-string runs.

    Hope, I didn't make a mistake! ;-)
