Is there any special way to do this or does it just require strength? I've got a decent 1 note vibrato down, but i just can't get anything going with a chord shape.

ok coming back to this again almost 1 year later heh.

Do you do classical sideways or up and down for chords?

For two notes, triads, etc, this is typically the classical vibrato..that is, use
your elbow motion to shake horizontally (parallel to the length of the fretboard).

This would make sure you vibrato is more or less even across all of the strings.
