Reading all of these comments just confirms how really subjective the choice of guitar pick is for a guitarist. I've tried a lot of picks over the years, and in the last 8 months of playing (trying to anyway) gypsy jazz I've gone from Wegen to Dugain to Red Bear, and back again. Most recently, I found a button in my wife's sewing box from an old vintage dress she had, which is black round, has a rounded rim around a middle area inset with 4 holes, and is about the size of a US quarter coin. Now, it may sound strange but this seems to be better than all of them. It never slips out of my finger/thumb as my thumb fits perfectly in the inset area, grips the 4 holes. It sounds pretty good, too, and the picking noise is about the same as others, though because of it's rounded shape just flies over the strings in both directions.
Now, with my D-500, playing rhythm, I find I get a better sound just using my index finger nail and bit of thumb flesh, a technique which I generally used for playing blues. Using a pick just generates too much volume, which I admit is most probably due to my lack of mastering real gypsy technique. Also, this technique probably wouldn't hold up in a gypsy jam, but works fine at home or in a small 2-3 person jam.
In the end, I don't know that any one pick is better than the other, but whatever floats your boat and fills your sails is the way to go, right!
BTW - we had 7 inches of snow on the day before the first day of spring. It's almost all gone, and the weather's turning finally! What a winter, so glad it's over.
Cheers
