Argentine 1610mf

edited November 2009 in CD, DVD, and Concert Reviews Posts: 27
I use Argentine ball end strings and am finding the G string .029. is wearing out very quickly indeed.
I have used this type of string for 3 years (when i started) and it is only in the last 6 months this string is being destroyed ..there is good tone from these strings and have been very happy with them up to now.
I do not play commercial but play and practice a fair bit for fun

Is this common for these strings to wear out ?and if so can someone please guide me to a good brand of string to use as an alternative.

Many thanks for the help .

I've actually read that complaint in another post. The answer was not exactly definitive, but it seems to be a common occurance. Michael does sell single 10 pack of these strings https://shoppingcart.djangobooks.com/cat--Argentine-Single-Strings--argentine_single.html, so there's probably good anecdotal evidence of it.

One other thought, might be to take a look at your fret wear, maybe it's time for a fret dressing. Though, it's probably a low probability. Just thinking of other causes...

    Cheers

While we're on the subject, I was wondering about the difference between 'loop' and 'ball' end strings, besides the obvious. Is one type preferred over the other, and if so, why?

I've got loop-ends on now, and am changing them out today with ball-end.

BTW - the 1610MF set I have in front of me, indicates the following gauges:
    6th - 046
    5th - 037
    4th - 029
    3rd - 023
    2nd - 015
    1st - 011

So, is it the 3rd string or 4th string giving you the trouble? Or is my set different?
