    Hello Rodolphe!

can you tell me more about this guitar? what wood do you have on the guitar?
This guitar is easy to play because the neck is just a beauty. But to play this instrument, a great technique is required. Mine is very bright and precise and it was (and it still is) a challenge to play it.

all the people (including mathieu chatelain) say that Marin guitar are pretty uncomfortable. why is it? what about this guitar is so uncomfortable? and you said that it is easy to play (despite what other people say) but you also said that you need a great technique to play it.. so i'm really confused. can you explain it to me?

i never played a Marin. i'm thinking about buying one just because Adrien, Sebastian and Mathieu used to play Marin, so i'm thinking to myself "he's probably done something right about his guitar, if all those great players liked them".

anyway, they're not the cheapest! (2900 euros, 4400$). lots of great luthiers take less money then Olivier, so it's a tough decision. what do you think?

    Hi,
About the wood, the back is Brazilian Cedar. Don't know about the front.

This guitar is really easy to play:
    - action is almost perfection
    - the neck is not to thin, to to big, not to flat. It's not square. It's a good neck for all type of hand I think,

I never tried other Olivier Marin's one so I cannot compare if other's have different neck.

To answer to GypsyStuff: This guitar requieres some technique to respond correctly. The sound is very clear and bright. So you can hear every mistake. If the 2 hands are not really coordinated, it's really obvious. The guitar itself is not very loud so the temptation is always to try to play louder, and the sound become "metallic" in a way.
But at a normal volume, with a good and not to loud rythm player, the sound is very outsanding, bright, expressive with a rare range of dynamic. Better than tons of guitars who drastically lack of nuances in my opinion.

Another think is that the Pompe is not easy to do with that guitar, because of the bright sound (who wants to hear a too bright Pompe?).

Olivier Marin is not the cheapest. But it has his following as you know.
Less luthiers take less money than Olivier. I think that in Europe Olivier Marin is at a reasonable price. The conversion Euro/dollars is a pain. That's it!!!!!

    I hope this help

Adrien Moignard taught a master class this last November at the Django Jamoboree in Louisville, KY. Charles Meadows, who was also there, believes he was playing a Favino (maybe '81) at the time. Most any guitar Adrien picks up to play is probably going to sound great.

That's his Favino in that clip. Great sounding guitar.

Thanks Charles. I really like the 'sparkle' in the sound, really cuts through. Am pretty new to this scene so its good to know what to aspire to sound-wise . Price-wise, I guess: *English kidney up for auction*
  • To buy a real Favino now, at least one kidney

Jeff Radaich's Favino is for sale on the site here (or was). $6000 I think. Great guitar.

Marin makes a very nice guitar , very experienced builder, clean construction nicely detailed . Refined. Worth 4.4k . Also note that several of the Marin family have been building nylon stringed guitars in Granada for generations and have an excellent reputation internationally . So these guitars are made by someone with guitar in the blood so to speak.
