Gypsy Jazz Legend - Costa Mesa
January 29 & 30
Orange County
100th Birthday and Legacy: Jean-Baptiste "Django" Reinhardt, the Belgian native and gypsy jazz guitarist, was born on January 23rd, 1910, and to honor the centennial of this hugely influential musician's birth, the Orange County Performing Arts Center will present Django 100: A Century of Hot Jazz January 29th & 30th in Samueli Theater at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. It's rare for an entire genre to be summed up by one single figure, yet Reinhardt easily shines as the unequivocal definition of gypsy jazz, which remains as vibrant as ever. Joining forces for this two-night tribute are six of the finest jazz musicians working today: French gypsy guitar icon Dorado Schmitt; his son and protégé, guitarist Samson Schmitt; French accordion virtuoso Ludovic Beier; French violin master Pierre Blanchard; American jazz bassist Brian Torff and American jazz clarinet and tenor saxophone soloist Ken Peplowski. Tickets to see Django 100: A Century of Hot Jazz are $49 and available now. Tickets are available at the Center's Box Office at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa, or by calling 714-556-2787 or visit
