how often do you replace your strings?

just wondering how often those people who play at least 2-3hours a day change their strings,

Once a month, unless they are particularly soiled.

I once asked this of a guitar teacher of mine when I was young. His answer was how often should put gas in your car? Answer being whenever you need to. I still follow that.

P.s. Apparently Django once played a gig on a clowns toy guitar - so i'll bet he didn't really have any concerns about strings until they broke.
