i have a favino from the 60s and it has a side mark on the 9th but the fret mark on the fingerboard is at the 10th
is this common?
No, it's not common. The side marker in your Favino is probably a later adjustment by some previous owner, who insisted his aid in the 9th fret. This is what I ment in my earlier post: side marks can easily be tuned into your likings. Once you have them where you want them, it really doesn't matter, where the fretboard markers are (since they are visible to the onlookers, while the player watches the side markers).
