I suppose I owe you a special apology for taking so long with this book...I think I've been telling you "only three months" for 2 years now....ha ha
For me the days of around the clock transcribing are over. Since I got married, had a kid, bought a house, etc....I simply can't crank out the pages as fast. And most of all, just running DjangoBooks.com (which is basically a Gypsy jazz super store) takes a lot of time. I'd like to just work on the books, but the truth is that the Gypsy jazz market isn't big enough to support me on book sales alone. So I have to wear a lot of hats: author, salesman, teacher, gigging musician, manager, web designer, shipping clerk, etc. I'm not really sure how I'm actually getting it all done...
Maybe someday I'll start making enough to hire an employee or two so I can free more time!..until then it's just me.
Anyway, all this has made it a lot harder to finish the Rhythm book. Good news is that the hard work on it is all done. I'm just editing and making the CD. So it shouldn't be too long. Maybe if things slow down after x-mas I'll get a good bit of time to finish it up!
A cool site feature (and I have no idea how troublesome it would be to incorporate) would be an Amazon-style Wish List that others could access and buy from.
As the birthday of our lord approaches, we must think of how we can get others to support our strange, anti-social hobbies! (Or is that just me stuck in my bedroom, hoping for another hour of solitude with my git-fiddle).
there's a new version of the shopping cart software coming out sometime soon. It'll have all the Amazon.com goodies like wish lists and customer reviews. I'll probably install that when it comes out!
My New Years resolution is to finally finish the Rhythm book! If all goes well I think it's realistic to have a late winter/ early Spring release.

Michael, my friend,
My birthday is in April. Early April. If we don't see that book by then, I'm pulling a serious Gandhi on you, and doing a hunger strike. And I'm already a skinny guy.
I'm just busting your chops. You've done more for this music in a few years than most of us will in a lifetime. Take your time; we'll be here!
I'm the 5th, by the by.
Best,
Jack.

Hey Michael if you ever want an employee I'll come and work for you. You can pay me in Lessons and I even have internet and Catalog sales/shipping experience.
Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard.
Michael ....
And all posters waiting ...
The birth of an artistic endevour is sometimes 2 weeks (the artist Cristo wrapping the Pont Neuf bridge in paris) and sometimes 600 years ( the time interval between the first laid bricks - AD 1270 - for the Cologn (Koln) cathedral and the final topping of the spire.
The point being, all good things in their time ....
patience being the true virtue... just relax... c'mon out to DFSW in May and maybe Michael Collins will have his book finished by then as well ...
until then ,
Latcho Drom .. and thanks for Gypsy picking ... 2 years into this and i still go back for proper pick direction ....
thanks from all of us michael ...
