Philadelphia can claim another Hot Swing act besides the great Joe Venuti.
Saw the Hot Club of Philadelphia last night at the World Cafe, and their show was a killer!
The warmed up for John Jorgenson, but could have easily passed for the headliners.
Picked up there latest CD: "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams", which puts them right up there.
There is a good article on them and the Django Centenial at: http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment/88549292.html
A fine gig indeed! It's especially nice when they bring in singers - it's easy to forget that Django and his contemporaries frequently acted as backup for vocalists.
And Jorgenson is just beyond amazing - jeez.
Anyway - Barry and the HCP will be at The Mermaid Friday April 9 with a jam the following Wednesday, April 14. (And Kruno Spisic will be playing WCL Upstairs on April 3.)
