Well if so, you are the proud owner of the coolest guitar on the planet short of #503. Congratulations!
I've never been a guitar player, but I've played one on stage.
  • Well.... As much I respect Lulu, I still think it's near to impossible... :?

It's quite simple. If a pic of Django playing your guitar does exist, Terry Dupont would know. So it's up to him now!

That said, it seems a bit odd Django played an oval hole guitar in the old records since they hadn't still been invented!
  • I recieved an answer from Gypsyjazzguitars.com:

i must honestly say that i have no idea who built this instrument..
what always amuses me is how people can acutally put a year..like 1938 to something that is absolutely not verifyable.

having dealt with many many gypsies (and non gypsies) over the last 32 years that i have been selling guitars, i can assure you that people will tell anything that comes to their mind as long as it sounds good.. having said that, if you like the guitar, that's all that matter..
i wish i could be of more help, but unfortunately i can't.

    cheers

I think you might need to go to gypsyguitars.com and ask the fellow there, not gypsyjazzguitars.com where it looks like the only thing they sell is Gitane and Draleon.
  • Sorry, dit I say Gypsyjazzguitars.com?
I meant gypsyguitar.com... He told me that in de 32 years he's in the business, he never had the chance to take a look at a Henri Miller guitar. Is there anyone here who can tell me more about that Lutier.
I know it's one of the famous Mirecourt lutiers. Just like Gérome and Patenotte.

I found some images of another younger Henri Miller. It looks exactly the same as mine.
You can also see what kind of tailpiece belongs to the Millers. I hope I can find an original.

Let''s just forget the whole Django-story Lulu told me. I just want to know more about these guitars.
I also have a Sonora on wich I also couldn't find any information :(

You should check out an old post where I tried to establish a link between Sonora, Carmelo Catania and the Sicilian school.

As for Henri Miller, if your is one of them (I'm not 100% sure, even if the very peculiar rosette design seems to confirm it) it has to be a quite rare model. I 've only seen D hole models from this maker...
  • The rosetts compared:

And this is my Sonora. It's an archtop, and it's completely different from the Sonora's I've seen before...

The tailpiece of you Sonora is probably not original (neither the bridge, I suspect). The headstock shape and the MOP fingerboard inlays speak again Sicilian to my ears...
