That's really interesting -- looks like the guitar ended up going for $7,170. Wonder who bought it?
Some guy and his 2 kids went to the auction and won that guitar. I remember he wrote an article for Vinatge Guitar magazine about the experience. Wish I could dig it up - I know I've seen it online. He thought that Clapton had played the guitar quite a bit.

Not sure, though, that Clapton played the guitar too much, though. Here are the lot notes from the auction. (LD is Lee Dickson, Clapton's guitar tech.)
Eric Clapton bought this guitar for collecting purposes from Westward Music [sic] in LA in 1995. Initially he used it a little in the studio.
EC: This came from LA. It would have been bought out of my love for Jango Rinehart [sic] and Gypsy guitar playing.
LD to EC: At the time you were looking for a Maccaferri. We never really found a good one...and you picked this up [in 1995]. You messed around with it in the studio for a few days, when we were doing overdubs..and so on. ..

Google's pretty amazing! The guy who bought it is a fingerstyle guitarist named John Thomas (http://www.johnthomasguitar.com/), and he's posted some real nice pictures of him and his kids smiling big when he won it (http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/alb ... 3623GXBvDE).

Courtesly from "Masters of Gypsy Picking".
Err... I shook hands with Chet Atkins when I was 17 - it didn't help.
"It's a great feeling to be dealing with material which is better than yourself, that you know you can never live up to."
