Nice page, Patrus. The character with the fiddle and the big bushy hair is the mysterious Lajos Kazanova. He was the son of La Kazanova, the renowned gypsy violinist who played in the cabarets russes in Paris. The most interesting thing about Kazanova was that he used a bow with no hair! Instead, the bow was notched with a knife and then rosined. This sounds impossible but I have some recordings of Kazanova playing songs like "Christopher Columbus" and "The Man I Love" with Francis and Janos Loppin, and he actually sounds a lot like Stuff Smith.
If you have not been there, Patrus' website has a lot of rare photos and videos.
This video was just posted to manoucheries. I love everything about it: F-AM's playing; the campfire filming; and the 1970s French newsman's moustache at the end! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCha3ng-GpM
Enjoy!

Francis, that page, your website, Scot's comment, and this forum make me realize how much I've missed jazz manouche, how much I love it, and why I love it. Thank you!
