Gypsy Jazz Poland (especially Poznan)?

Hi,

I'm looking for intrumentalists of all persuasions to start a Django-jazz band here in Poznan, Poland.

Would also be interested in fusing the music with club and DJ sounds for a broader appeal (while keeping the acoustic sound at the core), so samplers and scratchers with open minds and fresh ideas are also more than welcome.

If you're interested or know of someone who might be, do drop me a line!

Respect, swing68

Or if you prefer Polish:

Cześć!

Szukam instrumentalistów w celu tworzenia kapeli akustyczno-jazzowej, odnoszącej się do epoki międzywojennej i przede wszystkim muzyki Django Reinhardt'a (1910-1953).

Chóciaż to muzyka niszowa, apeluję do gitarzystów, klarnetystów i innych, abyśmy w jakiś sposób się zgromadzili i grali.

Chciałbym też dołączyć technologię didzejowską gdyby ktoś miał na to swieże pomysły i ochotę - nie potraktuję to jako konserwację muzyki zabytkowej :) .

Jeżeli sami jesteście zainteresowani, lub znacie kogoś podobnego, proszę o kontakt!

Z szacunkiem, swing68

Swing68, I'm not anywhere near Poland so can't join the band. But the idea of combining Django tunes with DJ sounds is intriguing. When you get it up and running, make sure to come back here and post some clips! I'm really curious what that will sound like.

I just stumbled upon video of "Caravan Palace". I'd never heard them before. Have you? They played Samois this year, and their stuff is awesome. Kind of a techo gypsy thing -- Daft Punk meets Django. Here are some samples.

Caravan Palace's album is great fun, they played at Samois and the reaction seemed to be mixed at best, don't think some of the elder statesmen approved.

Check out a group called Mad Manoush who do exactly what they say on the tin, crazy stuff but a lot of fun

Thanks folks. Yep, Caravan Palace have been getting a lot of airplay at Chateau swing68 lately.

Adam - don't suppose you're back in Poland any time?

    Cheers, A (swing68)

I am quite often there. This year going there in August, October (Poznan - Fingerstyle Festival), November (supporting T.Emmanuel) and December.
    cheers

Do you have dates for this one (or, indeed, any other Poznan shows)? I always seem to be away on business when the good music rolls in - but can probably fix that if I have enough notice!

Cool! Thanks for your PM, I am having a lucky week with some local Poznanian jazzers & techno-types getting in on the idea - but I suspected I may own the only Selmac in Poland (and certainly PZ) till now, great that that isn't the case!

I, too, am in London for the summer (rest of the year I telecommute from PZ) so the project is sort of on hold till them but am keeping everyone on the backburner in the meantime.

Very keen on a less formal structure so there will be opportunities to play as a straight GJ duo/trio as well as the more ambitious clubby stuff.

Tell me more (via PM if you so prefer) - do you play other styles? What brought you to PZ in the first place?

Look foward to hearing from you!

    Best, Alex (swing68)
