Thanks for your detailed reply @woodamand! I have tried a JWC once, a round hole model, and that's probably why I believe I can risk ordering one without a chance to try it first. I've got at least some idea of what they are like.
I've never owned a guitar with a cedar top. I just thought I might avoid the harsh sound of a completely new spruce top before it gets broken in (I have owned a guitar like that before and it was a long process before I got happy with the sound). Also, Michael H and others here have described the sound of cedar as similar to vintage instruments, which to my ears doesn't sound so bad at all! Difficult decision.
Oh, I love the look of quilted maple! But I have always thought maple meant more treble compared to indian rosewood. In any case, I should get in contact with the people at JWC and get their thoughts on these matters.
Is the fretboard really wider than other oval hole guitars? The round hole model I tried had a fretboard like a classical guitar. But I thought the other models have more or less standard Selmer style measurements. I'll check that. I expect to have to adjust anyway since I've played a short scale D hole model for some years.
@Kreesus, I've listened to the young italian guitarist playing a Prima Jazz (a video of him playing Hungaria is on the JWC site and you can find more on Youtube) and it sounds very good indeed. He is of course a very good player. That model is very tempting.
