Effect pedals with Stimer

I read that John Jorgenson has runs his stimer pickup through an old ibanez TS5 pedal (distortion set to "0" and tone control half way up).

I use a Stimer with my new MD-50 and don't know much about pedals/effects. What could I expect if I use such a pedal? Benefits?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I have one. It gives a more mellow tone removing high frequencies. It moves you more toward a Stochelo sound without so much of the tininess of this instrument without processing. I am happy to hear of this idea.

Any recommendations on a good pedal?

The new ibanez pedals don't have as good of a reputation as their old ones. If money was not an issue, what pedal would sound the best?

Again, I don't know anything about electronics and pedals. All feedback is greatly appreciated.

This is known is the Ibanez Tube Screamer which there are a number of variations. Any will probably do the job since the TS5 is the cheapest. It looks the TS7 is the latest bottom of the line.

I find that using an MXR 10-band equalizer really lets you dial in the tone you want. I also use an Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man to thow in a tiny bit of slap back.

But ultimately the amplifier you are using is going to bring much more to bear than any pedals. I started out using a Marshall which just did not sound right. Considered buying the Dupont Stimer amp but in the end went for a Swart Space Tone Reverb amp, which sounds simply phenomenal.I can really get that moody "Dark Eyes" electric Django sound from it.

    I wholeheartedly agree.

I tried quite a few amps before deciding to purchase the Rivera Venus 3; 15 watts class A (with a switch to decrease it to 7 watts), with a pull knob to choose between tweed or blackface sound. Incredible variety of tones, from very clean to rockish distortion. A guy at my local guitar shop said that some gypsy jazz folks liked the old Ibanez as it removed any unwanted harmonics.

I'd love to hear from others: Do you use any effects pedals with your Stimer pickups?

I went to my local shop and tried the BBE Green Screamer and the MRX GT-OD. They both added a fullness and balance to the sound. Close in price, too,

Problem is I couldn't really tell any tonal differences between them. Anybody use any such pedals with their Stimers?
