trajectory of pick

  • My Dunn is about 1.4 cm from the string to the top.

Are you sure you mean .8mm that is really low for action at the 12th fret let alone string to top distance. thats like 32 thousandths of an inch. thinner than most GJ picks
The Magic really starts to happen when you can play it with your eyes closed
  • Ha your right 0.8mm would be ridiculously close! I meant to say 0.8cm rather.

It's a pretty significant difference anyway, I think I wouldn't have a problem with the extra space.

Thanks so much for the help and clearing things up a bit, looks like I might be making a new purchase sometime soon! Cheers

    My Dupont is about 1.3cm.
Once you get used to gypsy picking all the time, you really notice it when playing a guitar that doesn't have that space under the strings. I keep a travel guitar in my car that's just a small flat top acoustic (a Luna Muse), and I always have to get accustomed to the strings being much closer to the body.
  • Thank you for the info, has been very helpful. I've decided not to change my technique but just to keep in mind the string height on a GJ guitar and hopefully will be ok when I get the genuine article!
