Tortoise Alternative

A pick I'm making now for folks to try out, primarily in the Gypsy Jazz world,,,,exotic Muskox Horn

A very beautiful and tough material, right now I call it the Gypsypik. They are made one at a time somewhat by hand. They have a nice attack and something I seem to notice now, is they're dynamic
range is vary wide with little effort, maybe its like this with alot organics ,don't know.
At this time I'm selling the Picks at $30 each plus shipping and of course shipping is very reasonable considering the size and weight.....greg

Also I'm now putting two cambered holes vertically for grip.
And a new pick shape/design, a traditional smallish pick with arc cut-out at the top to minimize pick rotation. Works pretty well and also acts as a sensor to tell of its axis orientation while in use
(by feel).....Its called the J-Hook(Jazz Hook)....good day..g

    Hi all

I ordered one of these picks from Greg - it arrived a couple of days ago and I have say that right from the outset I was amazed at the tone and volume this little beauty produces. This has become my favourite pick and - as Greg says - it is a thing of beauty.

I like it so much I've ordered another one

Thanks Alan for your positive review.......I also recently got in touch with Joscho Stephen and though he's a Wegen fan he said he would check out the Gypsypik and give his thoughts, so , we'll see.
    many thanks Greg

I just got one of Greg's picks. Yes, it's beautiful, but does it produce? I've been using 2.5mm Wegens for the last severala years and liking them a lot. Greg's Musk Ox Special does what the Wegen does with less pick noise. I especially appreciate it on the more sensitive ballads. Now I have to craft a suitable box to keep it in so I won't lose it!

I got a couple of these picks from Greg a while back. I've had many weeks worth of time to try these out now and I agree they have a very nice tone. They're not quite as loud as the wegen twin I normally use but almost as loud the tone is nicer; very sweet and a bit more mellow but still punchy. I like them particularly on ballads and when I'm playing chordal melody type things. Even without the dished grip I'm used to with wegen picks, Greg's picks don't slip out of my fingers either so that is another nice point. I agree it's a nice alternative to tortoise. Just don't lose it!
