I've never had a problem playing around the wife, since she is also a musician, but have run into this problem on other occasions. Namely, when I'm on a business trip and staying in hotels...turns out that other guests don't necessarily like free form Jazz at 12pm  . Another would be when I was in college. There were a few other guys who I knew played guitar, sax, trumpet or various other instruments and also lived in the dorms, so around 2am we would have musician battles...blaring our instruments at max volume between the dorm buildings trying to outplay the previous player. Of course, in between each musicial attempt we would hear a barrage of expletives being shouted from apparent non-musicians so long and fierce it would make the devil weep.

    Oh how I miss college!
  • Thank heaven we have a house with three levels. My wife's study is upstairs while I got stuck in the basement .... oh well at least the studio is big.

Guitar is loud enough but the sax ..... Yikes
The Magic really starts to happen when you can play it with your eyes closed
