The tribute continues this weekend in Roanoke Virginia as GJ groups gather to do the last show in the Djangoary Music Soirees series. So far this month we've had Django-inspired radio shows specially programmed on Public Radio/NPR in many Virginia markets, and several shows with a variety of Django-inspired groups. Our goal with "Djangoary" is to bring attention to this vibrant genre of jazz and its most notable progenitor at the time of his Birthday, educating and entertaining (and maybe proselytizing) as we go! Of course the events also serve as great jam session platforms and a series of roving summit conferences, allowing musicians to network and share ideas. We hope to grow this event (this was the 2nd Annual), so anyone that would like information or is interested in participating please contact me. Last week's Djangoary Music Soiree was an awesome mix of styles that shared the Maestro's touch. The Woodshedders (from WVa - and joined by Seattle's, Greg Ruby) shared the stages with accordion musette/jazzer, Dallas Vietty and Barry and Rich from the Hot Club of Philly. Gypsy Roots, doing their blend of gypsy jazzplorations and history lessons hosted the event. This weekend (29 January) the soiree moves to Roanoke and will feature Gypsy Roots, the Olivarez Trio, and will be hosted by the Hot Club de Big Lick! This final show in the 2nd Annual Djangoary series will be at the Kirk Avenue Music Hall in Roanoke VA. Come out and celebrate with us...and of course...bring your axes!

Here's some footage from last week's Djangoary Soiree featuring a menagerie of performers from all 3 groups, shot by a fan in the audience. Reinhardt's name is misspelled, but it does capture the fun of the event. Last tune of the night---pre-Djam session! Enjoy, and happy Djangoary from the East Coast!
