    Hi Andrew,

Looking forward to seeing you at Django in June this year.

"May" I suggest "May Fools", a 1990 Louis Malle film with soundtrack by Stephane Grappelli...

Paul Cezanne: "I could paint for a thousand years without stopping and I would still feel as though I knew nothing."

Edgar Degas: "Only when he no longer knows what he is doing does the painter do good things.... To draw, you must close your eyes and sing."

Georges Braque: "In art there is only one thing that counts: the bit that can’t be explained."

    Hi Will:
Looking forward to seeing you, too. Glad you'll be joining us!

Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't heard of that one, though someone suggested another Malle film (Lucien...something) with a Django soundtrack. I guess if one wants to conjure up wartime France, one turns to the Django soundtrack.

I think our first choice will be Gatlif's new Liberte, but it's great to know there are other options if that doesn't pan out, or for other years. It looks like this is going to be a regular part of Django in June so long as it works for all concerned.

Ah, yes, Lacombe Lucien, I saw it at the theatre when it was released, a kind of a scary drama set in wartime France when a teenage kid who's volunteering in the Nazi-controlled Milice (sort of a militia-police group) gets power over all the grownups in his and his girlfriend's familly...

Quite a good film actually, I'd even forgotten the music was by Django!

Has anyone heard of or seen the Russian movie Queen of the Gypsies (1975 or 76)? I found it looking around on Google. Looks interesting and might be a good candidate for Django in June. The clip I saw was subtitled in English.

Sweet & Lowdown or the new tony Gatlif sound like winners.

There was the funny violin related french movie, The Tall Blond Man With One Red Shoe

There was a remake with Tom Hanks who I love but the original was better. I wish I could be there, enjoy.
it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing
