Which picking technique...

edited March 2011 in Gypsy Picking Posts: 6
does Stechelo Rosenberg use in the beginning of this video? I have the book 'Gypsy Picking' and the pattern most resembling it i can find would be Picking Pattern #5, but still can't get the right sound. Any suggestions?

heres the video, sure you've all seen it. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWQXAuhs7Oc

It seems to be up on first string, down on 3rd, down on 2nd, down on first, up on first, down on 3rd, down on 2nd, etc, picking style. It's in one of the exercises in Gypsy Picking, I don't have it in front of me but it is this one:

First is the exercise and the second one is a little closer in speed to the picking idea of what Stochelo is doing (I'm pretty sure, not positive)

The trick is to accentuate the last downstroke in the sweep followed by a fast upstroke, creating a remarkable concurrent rolling staccato melody line:
Down,,, down,,, down, up,,, Down,,, down,,, down, up,,, etc..

Good luck getting it up to Stochelo's speed.
