How nice it is to discuss almost invisible details with a bunch of maniacs that make you feel there are people worse than yourself
Thanks guys, again, great stuff, superb quality pictures, details, details and more details... Funny to see that after all there isn't half the interest for sherlock-holmesing Django facts and artefacts on the french forum.
Spatzo and I have been obssessed with finding out as much as possible about Django for many years now - trying to get beyond the myth and misinformation. I am convinced that when Spatzo wakes up in the morning, his first words are "Django" and even more worrying is that the fact that I think that is completely normal.
No, haven't tried it, but last year we went to Umbria winter for 3 shows, umbria summer for one, and Padova, Pescara, The dolomiti, Lago Di Garda and Cala Gonone in Sardegna, wasn't there ONE of these near enough ? Anyway it was so nice to be in Italy, of course the project is to come back asap !!! I hope there'll be a few more festivals this year !
But I digress - there isn't a single mention of DJANGO in this post, uhhhhhhh.
Just a matter of interest, is there any further information on the guitar that Joseph is laying on Django's coffin in that photo at django's funeral? Perhaps it was one of Josephs? A friend saw the photo in Dregni's book and commented that it was a bloody waste of a guitar

Well the light binding and the contour of the guitar make it clear it's not a Selmer. I think the "mistake" is easy to account for. Everyone knew Django primarily played a Selmer. My non-guitar friends, at least, can't tell one guitar from another. So Joseph lays a guitar on the casket as a symbolic gesture, maybe even a beater that Django owned for Babik to play, and the non-playing relatives assume it was a Selmer and pass the story on.
Too bad no one asked Joseph...
I've never been a guitar player, but I've played one on stage.
Are there other Selmers with white bindings?
The bridge and headstock look Selmac ish.
Teddy Dupont. Where do you live? I am continuously astonished at the documentary stuff from Django's life that you have. Is there anyone who has more of this kind of evidence than you?
Also thank you so much for sharing it. It adds immeasurably to these discussions.

I just watched a documentary called "Django Reinhardt: Trois Doigts de Genie". I believe it aired in France last year. It included some incredible footage of Django's funeral and funeral pyre. Here's a screengrab I took of the part where the guitar is laid on the coffin. It's a closer shot than the one Teddy posted.
Yaaaaaaahaaa I had it right here under my nose (almost re-watched the documentary yesterday evening but I postponed...) Looks like a Di Mauro sweet chorus, right ?
Wonderful documentary by the way, I recommand it to all of you guys !

Di Mauro? Joseph di Mauro the elder used diamond fret markers like that. Did Antoine as well? Great picture!

Have you tried the Blue Note in Milan? The Rosenberg Trio would deserve it (plus it would be so convenient for me!)
