Wegen Fat Tone

harryeharrye Australia✭✭✭ Antoine Prabel / Olivier Marin
Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience/feedback regarding using the 5mm wegen fat-tone picks for lead. I've been using the 3.5mm's but thought i might give one of these a go.

cheers

Harry

I've had great luck with the Fat Tone and use it on gigs all the time. I also use a slightly modified Dunlop Primetone (5mm), with the picking edges sanded to resemble the Wegen. To my ears, the Wegen gives the strongest and warmest tone.

That being said, I always try out other possibilities, because the pick is not the most important aspect of good right hand technique and sound. The grip and wrist movement are the things that seem to have the greatest effect on my sound and picking ability.

never tried the fat tone, i´m curious about it. i use the GP 250, the standard gypsy pick and the button (5mm) for lead playing and like them all. the button does give me a full bodied and balanced sound. difficult to get the upstrokes right, though, but that must be my poor technique.

    cheers,
    Miguel.
