Players Guitar

Hi there,

This is my first post, glad to be amongst fellow aficionados/obsessives!

Ok, so I need a new guitar - badly.

I currently own a Dell Arte Pigalle, which has been my main instrument for a few months now. It's ok, and it's got a nice tone, and it's easy to play. It's been a good student guitar, but...it's quiet. I've started going to a lot of jams, and I now play in a group and we do a lot of gigs acoustically, and I need something that's going to cut through, something with bite, and something that i don't have to shred to make myself heard when I'm soloing.

I need a professional quality instrument at a reasonable price, and more and more I'm drawn towards the Dupont MD 100. I've played one, and they seem excellent value with a very classic tone. As with all guitars, I know that individual guitars can vary greatly, but if you find a "good" MD 100, would it be fair to say that would be about the best guitar you could get at that price point?

As I said before, I need a guitar that's going to cut through during solo's, and something that would be a good guitar for performing acoustic gigs. Any help will be very appreciated.

To boost the volume, try enlarging the soundhole

I picked up one of these and I actually like it a lot. Decent volume and tone. Setup was not bad. The neck has that large-ish square-ish profile that I guess was copied from the old Selmers. Some people like that but I'd rather have a sleeker neck personally since I have small hands.

All in all a real decent guitar esp. considering price.

There's a used Dell Arte Hommage for sale in the classified section. They have a very good reputation and are affordable.

RE: Dell Arte Hommage, looks nice but I think the seller will only ship within the US and I live in England. Isn't the Hommage a Favino copy?

RE: Gallato, I saw someone with one of these at a jam, and definitely cut through, but I've heard they're not necessarily the easiest guitars to play, and would require a lot of setup work, is this true?

I would like to know if any body on here owns a Dupont MD 100, what they're like in terms of tone, playability, and volume.

    Any help would be appreciated!

I'm very satisfied with the tone and volume on the Gallato.

I believe the neck profile is a traditional Selmer (square-ish) profile which I don't particularly care for but some people like. Maybe he was trying to stick with the original specs or something but I'd prefer a more rounded profile. It's still quite playable tho. Not nearly as big as say a D500.

The setup was not bad, definitely playable but the action is a bit high. Some slight buzzes on a few frets. I will probably do a minor fret level and lower the action a bit after it settles in a bit and I go thru a few sets of strings.
